“They’re set up as typical Northern Renaissance images, but have these contemporary surfaces built into them; industrial materials, tools,” says artist Lucas Price of his latest works, created as part of the Carhartt WIP Fall 2021 campaign.
The series of photorealistic oil paintings display Price’s knack for bringing together seemingly disparate worlds in a way that still feels uncanny yet cohesive, as he toys with ideas of painterly tropes and modern design. The clothing featured – taken from the brand’s F/W21 collections – also has a sense of classics rendered anew: fabrics like washed denim and Dearborn Canvas nod to the foundational elements of Carhartt WIP, but have been applied to contemporary reworkings of their archetypes.
