• Photography Policy and Guidelines

West Eden is a popular place for photographers. While personal photography is encouraged at the gallery, it must be conducted without disruption to gallery operations or visitors, with the safety of the art in mind and wih recognition of copyright and artists' rights.

    Personal-Use Photography

Casual photography is permitted in the gallery subject to the conditions below. Photography of special exhibitions or works on loan to the gallery is sometimes prohibited by lenders. Photo policies for special exhibitions will be posted in the galleries.

    Visitors may:

    • Take casual photos for personal use only.
    • Use handheld cameras, cell phones, and tablets with the flash turned off.
    • Post images from their visits on personal social media sites as long as they are not used for profit. Photography for any fashion brand or business will fall under the commercial photography policy.

    Visitors may NOT:

    • Use tripods, lights, selfie sticks, or other external equipment.
    • Sell or publish the images.
    • Use the images to promote any outside product or service.

    Visitors must:

    • Maintain a safe, non-touching distance from all artwork, cases, platforms, and pedestals.
    • Respect other visitors enjoying the gallery.

West Eden reserves the right to withhold or withdraw permission to photograph on the premises.

    News Media

Members of the media must make arrangements for all photo and video shoots in advance. To coordinate a shoot, please contact gallery staff.

Members of the media must be escorted by a staffperson at all times or have permission from gallerist to shoot independently. All organized photo shoots inside the gallery—for news coverage, school projects, etc.—require a staff member escort.

Due to the delicate nature of the artwork on view, additional light sources may not be permitted in certain galleries.

We encourage members of the media to make an appointment ahead of time to be able to view and photograph the gallery at its best. Gallery staff will also be able to guide you through the exhibition and answer any questions.

    Commercial Photography and Film Shoots

Photography and film shoots for commercial purposes (TV/film, etc.) must be approved and scheduled in advance by the gallerist. Commercial shoots are subject to additional fees and are typically scheduled on Wednesday, when the galery is closed to the public. West Eden can provide information about space rentals and associated fees. If any copyrighted artworks appear in photos/footage, please contact galelry staff for rightsholder information. It is the user’s responsibility to obtain necessary permissions and pay required fees to the artist, estate, or rights representative for any commercial use of copyrighted material.
